NBC4 is reporting that Rebecca L. Sacra and her two-year-old grandson, Jonathan Wade-Ortiz, were killed in a car accident while stopped for a red light at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and University Boulevard in Manassas, Virginia by a suspected drunk driver just after midnight on September 3, 2009. The vehicle that they were in was struck with such a violent force that it traveled nearly 100 yards before colliding with a wall of large boulders. It has been determined that William John Mallory was the driver of the vehicle that caused the collision. Since Prince William County Police believe that alcohol was a factor, Mallory has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Prince William County Police are still investigating the crash to determine if any additional charges will be filed against Mallory.

The investigation further revealed that William John Mallory may have been attending a Jimmy Buffett concert nearby at Nissan Pavilion just prior to the accident. This horrific car accident is a prime example for the need to have a sober designated driver with you when you attend events where you intend to consume alcohol. If you are unable to have a designated driver to take you home from the event, you should have the number of a local taxi service handy as well as extra cash for a safe ride home.
