Alleged Reckless Driver Injures Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy | Loudoun Reckless Driving Lawyer

September 19, 2011 -

When you see those pretty blue flashing lights on the side of the road, you are required to slow down and move over to the next lane if possible to allow emergency personnel to safely do their jobs. Apparently, Mr. Trout missed this memo this morning.

At approximately 5:20 a.m. this morning, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Captain Brian Courneya was traveling in his cruiser east on Route 7 when he struck a deer. Capt. Courneya pulled over on the median of Route 7 and turned on his cruiser lights to go out and search for the injured deer. While Capt. Courneya was walking along the median with flashlight in hand, a 1999 Jeep Cherokee operated by Craig H. Trout, 62, of Lovettsville, came fast upon slower traffic on Route 7 and swerved to miss it going into the median area hitting the deputy. Following the accident, Capt. Courneya was transported to and treated at INOVA Loudoun Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and Route 7 was closed several hours during the investigation.

Fortunately, it was a glancing blow. He should be OK. He could have been killed. – Loudoun Sheriff Steve Simpson

As a result of this accident, Craig H. Trout has been charged with reckless driving for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
