Virginia Underage DUI Laws Are About to Be Tougher July 2011 | Prince William DUI Attorney

The Virginia Assembly passed earlier this year a new law that will provide harsher penalties for underage drinking and driving making it a Class 1 misdemeanor. This new Virginia law was created to send a message to the youth of Virginia that there will be zero tolerance on underage drinking and driving and with hopes that is will also reduce the serious and sometimes fatal car crashes that occur due to underage drunk drivers.

The new underage DUI law will impose starting in July 2011 when the law takes effect a penalty for any driver under the age of 21 to be found with a 0.02 or higher blood alcohol content (BAC). If found guilty, the underage drunk driver will be required to lose their driver’s license for a year and choose between a fine of $500 or 50 hours of community service.
